Learn about the latest actions clubs can take to prevent injury and support healthy nutrition in sport. Featuring world-renowned sports medicine clinician Dr Peter Brukner, La Trobe University’s Professor Kay Crossley and Associate Professor Matthew Hopcraft from the Australian Dental Association Victoria. Sporting clubs are crucial for thriving communities - we all want our members to improve their well-being and learn healthy lifelong habits from participation in our clubs.  Our expert presenters will discuss the actions clubs can take to prevent injury and support better nutrition in sport. We encourage multiple representatives from each club to attend. You will leave with the inspiration and tools to help protect and improve the health and well-being of your club members.

About our Speakers- 

Peter Brukner OAM is a specialist sports and exercise physician whose most recent position has been Australian cricket team doctor from 2012-17. Peter is the founding partner of Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne and Professor of Sports Medicine at LaTrobe University. Peter is the co-author of the widely used text book Clinical Sports Medicine and has been team physician for professional football clubs as well as national athletics, swimming, soccer and men’s hockey teams including Olympic and Commonwealth Games. He is the co-founder of the public health campaign SugarByHalf and is committed to the challenge of improving the nation’s health with improved diet and increased physical activity. His most recent book A Fat Lot of Good was published in May 2018.

Professor Kay Crossley is Director of the La Trobe Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre. Kay is a physiotherapist with a long history of working with elite athletes including Commonwealth and Olympic Games. More recently Kay has devoted herself to research with wide interests including patellofemoral pain, and hip and knee osteoarthritis. Kay is regarded as a world leader in her field and recently was invited to give the keynote lecture at the World Physiotherapy conference in Vancouver. Kay’s passion is injury prevention, and with her research team, she has developed an injury prevention program for the AFLW focussing on knee injuries

Associate Professor Matt Hopcraft is a dental public health expert and CEO of the Australian Dental Association Victorian Branch. He co-founded SugarFree Smiles to advocate for measures to improve oral health in Australia and has been involved with many public campaigns to raise awareness of oral health issues and encourage healthy eating.
